Gary A. Braunbeck is the June Spotlight Author over at the Dorchester Publishing site:
http://www.dorchesterpub.com/Dorch/SpecialFeatures.cfm?ID=2491The section includes an interview, some nice comments from editor Don D'Auria, and Gary's essay "Unearthing the Mysteries Buried in Coffin County". The essay discusses his latest novel
Coffin County and introduces Cedar Hill to those who may not be familiar with the fictional town that serves as the setting for most of his novels and stories.
The book is already getting some pretty darn good reviews at places like
Horror World. I'm particularly excited about the release of this book, since it's based on his novella
Haceldama.
That novella blew me away when I first read it years ago, and I'd been pestering Gary ever since then to expand it into a novel. And he was all, "No, no, it can't be a novel," and I was all "Yes, yes, it would make a kick-ass novel" and lo, time passed and I wore him down and he wrote it. :)
In other news, Gary Braunbeck will be teaching at the next
Borderlands Press Boot Camp, which will be held January 23-25, 2009 in Towson, MD. The other instructors include Ginjer Buchanan, Mort Castle, Douglas Clegg, Thomas F. Monteleone, Thomas Tessier, F. Paul Wilson, and Douglas E. Winter.
